M25 / A3 Junction Alteration update

You will remember that in 2017 we were all invited to comment on the proposed options for improving the M25/A3 junction.   Once again, despite an extensive “consultation” with local communities, the authorities have chosen the scheme which requires the least money, but does the most damage to Ripley/Send in terms of increased traffic. This despite the fact that almost two thirds of respondents favoured the other scheme being offered!  Some consultation!

They have not listened to local concerns at all regarding the absurdity of forcing of all Wisley Gardens traffic to/from the south TRHOUGH RIPLEY to the Ockham roundabout, rather than as now, via the A3 trunk road. It is significant that none of the stated Aims and Benefits and Objectives of this scheme are to do with reducing traffic on local roads by use of Trunk roads.  In this case, the actual opposite is proposed – to improve traffic flow on the A3/M25 by pushing traffic onto the B2213 through Ripley village!

RHS Wisley predict an increase in visitors from 1 million annually currently to 1.4 million within a few years. So that’s 800,000 extra trips to and from RHS Wisley. Even if only a quarter of those are from the South, then that’s 200,000 more trips per year through Ripley!

Traffic In Ripley
Excessive Traffic is already commonplace in Ripley

This will have serious implications for Ripley and surrounding villages, which would be compounded by the huge housing developments proposed at in the Local Plan at Garlicks Arch and Gosden Farm, and makes it all the more vital for Ripley’s traffic that those developments do not go ahead.
